BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Alphonsus Maria de Liguori was an Italian bishop, theologian, and religious order founder. Born in 1696 in Marianella near Naples, he studied law and became a lawyer. After a deep spiritual experience, he abandoned his legal career to become a priest. In 1732, he founded the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (Redemptorists), dedicated to missionary work among the poor. He later became bishop of Sant'Agata dei Goti but had to resign due to health reasons. He wrote numerous theological works, including the famous "Moral Theology" treatise. He died in 1787 and was canonized in 1839. In 1871, he was declared a Doctor of the Church.
