BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Basin of Trier, also known as Basinus, served as the bishop of Trier from approximately 697/698 until his death in 705. Limited reliable information exists about his life. Some historians suggest he was an early member of the Widonid family, which included his successors Liutwin and Milo. This familial succession of bishops is referred to as the Trier or Mettlach episcopal dynasty. It is believed that Basin was the abbot of the St. Maximin monastery in Trier before his episcopate, although this information may be based on medieval forgeries. His date of death is recorded as March 4, 705, in a document by his successor Liutwin. Since the 10th and 11th centuries, he has been venerated as a saint, with his feast day originally on March 3, later moved to March 4.
