BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Florian was a Roman officer in the province of Noricum, present-day Austria. He was responsible for fire prevention and declared himself a Christian, which led to his persecution by the Romans. Under Emperor Diocletian, he was captured, tortured, and ultimately thrown into the Enns River with a millstone tied around his neck. His body was recovered by a widow named Valeria and buried with honor. Later, the Abbey of Saint Florian was built over his grave.
