BIOGRAPHY:
Charlemagne, also known as Charles the Great, was born on April 2, 747. As King of the Franks and Lombards and, from 800 onwards, as Roman Emperor, he played a decisive role in unifying large parts of Europe during the Early Middle Ages. He promoted the Carolingian Renaissance, a cultural and intellectual revival, and advocated for educational reforms. Charlemagne was crowned Emperor by Pope Leo III in Rome on December 25, 800. After his death on January 28, 814, in Aachen, he was buried in the Palatine Chapel there.
