BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Claudius of Condat, also known as Claudius of Besançon, was a Frankish bishop and abbot in the 7th century. He was born near Besançon and entered the monastery of Condat (now Saint-Claude), where he became known for his piety and scholarship. Later, he was appointed abbot of the monastery and worked on its reform and expansion. His reputation for holiness led to his appointment as bishop of Besançon. However, he eventually withdrew to the monastery, where he spent the last years of his life. His veneration spread rapidly, and his tomb became an important pilgrimage site.
