BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Cyril of Alexandria was born around 375/80 in Alexandria. He was the nephew of Patriarch Theophilus of Alexandria and received comprehensive training in theology and philosophy. After his uncle's death, he was appointed Patriarch of Alexandria on October 15, 412. During his tenure, he firmly opposed various heresies, particularly Nestorianism, which separated the divine and human natures of Christ. At the Council of Ephesus in 431, he played a decisive role in condemning Nestorius and affirming Mary as the "Mother of God" (Theotokos). His writings and sermons significantly contributed to Christian theology. Cyril died on June 27, 444, in Alexandria.
