BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Servatius was the Bishop of Tongeren and is venerated as one of the first missionaries of Christianity in the Netherlands. He is believed to have been of Armenian origin and traveled to Gaul to spread the Gospel. As a bishop, he fought against Arianism and defended the Catholic faith. Legends report that he died in Maastricht and was buried there, at a site that later developed into a significant place of pilgrimage. He is considered a powerful intercessor against frost and misfortune. Furthermore, he is one of the five "Ice Saints," whose feast days in May are often associated with a final cold snap. Due to his feast day on May 13, he is traditionally regarded as the second of these "stern lords."
