BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Patrick, born in the late 4th or early 5th century in the Roman province of Britannia, was kidnapped by Irish pirates at the age of about 16 and sold into slavery in Ireland. He spent six years as a shepherd before escaping and returning to his family. After his return, he decided to dedicate his life to the Church and was ordained as a priest. Later, St. Patrick returned to Ireland to spread Christianity. He used the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity to the pagan Gaelic tribes. His missionary efforts led to the conversion of many Irish people to Christianity. He founded churches, monasteries, and schools, laying the foundation for Christian Ireland. According to legend, he drove all the snakes out of Ireland. St. Patrick died on March 17, probably in the year 461 or 493, in County Down, Ireland.
