BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Gemma Galgani was born in Camigliano (Italy) into a wealthy family of pharmacists. At the age of seven she lost her mother, and a few years later her brother and father. She had several mystical visions, which earned her the nickname "Daughter of the Passion". She documented all her supernatural experiences in her autobiography. Despite many painful experiences of a physical and psychological nature, she always remained steadfast, which is why she was seen by many as the living image of the Passion of Christ.
PATRONAGE:
St. Gemma Galgani is the patron saint of students and pharmacists and protects against temptations, tuberculosis, headaches and back problems. She is also called upon to help in the event of the death of parents.
SYMBOLISM:
The symbols of San Gemma Galgani are a crucifix and stigmata as a sign of her identification with the suffering of Jesus, a rosary representing her intense life of prayer, a crown of thorns to symbolize her suffering and a halo as a symbol of her holiness.
