BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Germanus of Granfelden was a Frankish monk and abbot in the 7th century. Born in Trier, he joined the monastery of Luxeuil, known for its strict ascetic life. Later, he became the first abbot of the newly founded monastery of Moutier-Grandval (Granfelden) in present-day Switzerland. Under his leadership, the monastery became a center of prayer and education. During the power struggles between the Duke of the Alemanni and the Frankish mayor of the palace, Ebroin, St. Germanus opposed violence and was consequently executed in 675 by Ebroin's order.
