BIOGRAPHY:
St. John XXIII, born Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli on November 25, 1881, in Sotto il Monte, Italy, was elected Pope in 1958. He was known for his humility, warmth, and reformist spirit. During his pontificate, he convened the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965), which modernized the Church and promoted dialogue with the world. John XXIII was a strong advocate for peace and social justice, as reflected in his encyclical Pacem in Terris. He passed away on June 3, 1963, and was canonized by Pope Francis in 2014.
