BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Vitus was born in the 3rd century in Sicily and is venerated as one of the 14 Holy Helpers. Despite his young age, he boldly professed his Christian faith, which led to persecution by the Roman authorities. According to legend, his pagan father opposed his faith, forcing him to flee. Alongside his tutor Modestus and nurse Crescentia, he sought refuge in Lucania but was soon captured and brought before Emperor Diocletian. He endured severe tortures and ultimately suffered martyrdom.
PATRONAGE:
St. Vitus is the patron saint of pharmacists, brewers, winemakers, actors, and coppersmiths. He is also invoked against epilepsy, rabies, and nervous disorders.
