BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Rupert of Salzburg was a Frankish bishop and missionary, known as the Apostle of Bavaria. Born around 660, he served as the Bishop of Worms before being invited by Duke Theodo II of Bavaria to Regensburg to aid in the Christianization of the region. Rupert founded the St. Peter's Monastery in Salzburg, laying the foundation for Christianity in Austria. He is also considered the founder of the city of Salzburg, as he built a new religious center on the site of the ancient Roman city of Juvavum. He is credited with promoting salt mining in the region. Rupert passed away around 718 and has been venerated as the patron saint of Salzburg ever since.
