BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Scholastica, born in Nursia (Italy), was the twin sister of St. Benedict of Nursia, the founder of the Benedictine order. Her close bond with Benedict is considered a model of spiritual brotherhood in the tradition of the Church. Her last meeting with him was described by Pope Gregory the Great in his "Dialogues". Scholastica is said to have sensed that her death was near and asked Benedict to spend the night with her in prayer. He refused, whereupon a violent storm made him stay.
