BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Teresia, born in Breslau (Poland), belonged to a Jewish family but described herself as an atheist. Her intellectual pursuits led her to philosophy, where she became a student of the well-known phenomenologist Edmund Husserl. However, her profound preoccupation with philosophical questions did not immediately lead her to religion. It was not until 1921, when she read the autobiography of St. Teresa of Ávila, that she experienced a spiritual conversion, which ultimately led her to be baptized into the Catholic Church. A year after her conversion, she was baptized and chose the name "Teresia Benedicta of the Cross". In 1933, she entered the Carmelite convent in Cologne. Due to her Jewish origins, she was deported to Auschwitz in 1942, where she suffered martyrdom.
