BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Notburga, born in Rattenberg (Austria), is an important popular saint in Tyrol and Bavaria. As a servant and cook in Rottenburg Castle, she worked diligently for the needy. She completely disregarded her mistress's ban on distributing leftovers to them. According to legend, the food hidden in her apron turned into shavings as soon as she was confronted. The miracle with the sickle is also a remarkable event. Notburga worked on a farm on the condition that she did not have to do any work in the fields on Saturday evenings in order to prepare for prayer and Sunday. In response to her employer's refusal, she threw the sickle into the air with the words: "Let the sickle judge between us." The sickle remained hovering in the light of a sunbeam, proving God's favor towards her attitude.

St. Notburga is the patron saint of maidservants, the poor and farmers.
