BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Ulrich was born in Augsburg in 890 into a noble family. From an early age, he showed interest in religious life and was educated at the monastery of St. Gall. In 923, he was consecrated Bishop of Augsburg and devoted himself to church reform and strengthening the faith. St. Ulrich is best known for defending Augsburg against the Hungarians in 955, where he played a crucial role as a spiritual and moral leader. Due to his generosity and tireless dedication, he was deeply loved by the people. He died in 973 and was canonized in 993, becoming the first officially recognized saint by the Catholic Church.
PATRONAGE:
St. Ulrich is the patron saint of fishermen, travelers, and pregnant women, as well as the Diocese of Augsburg.
