BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Vitalis of Salzburg was an Anglo-Saxon or Irish monk who came to Salzburg as one of the most important companions of Saint Rupert. He initially served as a monk in St. Peter's Monastery and eventually succeeded Rupert as Abbot-Bishop of Salzburg. During his tenure, he dedicated himself intensely to the missionizing of the Pinzgau region and strengthened the Christian structure in present-day Austria. His tireless commitment to the faith and the organization of the diocese made him a central figure in Salzburg's church history. He died around the year 730 in Salzburg, where his remains are still venerated today in the St. Peter's Abbey Church.
