BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Afra, born in Augsburg (Germany), was originally a priestess of Venus. She converted to Christianity through the holy Bishop Narcissus of Girona. From then on, she worked hard to spread the Christian faith. However, the Roman Emperor Diocletian, who was known for his persecution of Christians, gave her a choice: renounce her faith or die a martyr's death. Afra chose the latter and was burned to death on an island. With this heroic sacrifice, she is still regarded today as a symbol of courage and devotion.
