BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Olga, born in Russia, took over the rule of Kiev for her minor son Svyatoslav when her husband, Prince Igor I of Kiev, was murdered by the neighboring Drevlyans tribe. Her revenge on the Drevlyans took on extremely brutal proportions. Among other things, she had them buried alive, murdered while drunk and burned down the town of Iskorosten. Despite these actions, she is considered the first Christian ruler of Kievan Rus. Her zeal for conversion was also evident in her attempt to convert her son Svyatoslav and the people to Christianity, which she did not succeed in doing during her lifetime.
