BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Andrew was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus and the brother of Saint Peter. Born in Bethsaida, he was initially a disciple of Saint John the Baptist before following Christ. According to the New Testament, he was among the first to recognize Jesus as the Messiah. After Christ's Ascension, he preached the Gospel in Asia Minor, Greece, and possibly even Russia. He was martyred in Patras, where he was crucified on an X-shaped cross, now known as Saint Andrew's Cross. His relics were later transferred to Constantinople.
