BIOGRAPHY:
St. Augustine, born in Thagaste (modern-day Algeria), was one of the greatest theologians and philosophers of the Church. Initially, he lived a worldly life and pursued philosophy, but through the prayers of his mother, St. Monica, and the influence of St. Ambrose, he converted to Christianity. In 387, he was baptized and embraced a monastic life. Later, he became Bishop of Hippo and authored many important works, including Confessions and The City of God, which have had a lasting impact on Christian theology. He died during the siege of Hippo by the Vandals.
