BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Corona, born in Syria, was the wife of an early Christian martyr. Her husband Victor was executed after publicly professing his faith, whereupon Corona also converted to Christianity. She was stretched between two palm trees bent downwards, which tore her limbs apart as they swung upwards. She thus suffered martyrdom at the age of 16.
PATRONAGE:
St. Corona is the patron saint of the Italian towns of Castelfidaro, Feltre and Osimo; of treasure diggers, treasure hunters, money matters, lotteries and protects against plagues and epidemics.
SYMBOLISM:
The symbols of San Corona are a martyr's crown to emphasize her steadfastness and the triumphant victory of faith, a palm branch, which generally stands for martyrdom, and lilies as a sign of innocence.
