BIOGRAPHY:
The Saints Ewald, two Anglo-Saxon brothers known as "Black Ewald" and "White Ewald," were missionaries who brought Christianity to Saxony in the 7th century. They preached among the pagan Saxons in Westphalia, but their mission led to their martyrdom. They were killed by the locals and later venerated as saints. Their relics were transferred to Werden by Saint Suitbert.

St. Ewald is the patron saint of missionaries and the Diocese of Münster.
