BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Fidelis of Sigmaringen was born as Markus Roy in 1577 in Sigmaringen. He studied law and philosophy and became a successful lawyer. However, he decided to leave his career behind and devote himself to faith, joining the Capuchin Order under the name Fidelis. As a preacher and missionary, he worked extensively for the Counter-Reformation in Switzerland. His passionate preaching made him a target of Protestant opponents who brutally murdered him. He was canonized by Pope Benedict XIV in 1746.
