BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Gerold was a noble hermit from present-day Vorarlberg, Austria. After losing his wife and children, he chose a life of solitude and withdrew to the Grosses Walsertal region. There, he devoted himself to prayer, meditation, and charitable aid to needy travelers. After his death, he was soon venerated as a saint, and his hermitage became a well-known pilgrimage site.
