BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Günther of Thuringia was born around 955 into a noble Bavarian family. Initially, he lived a worldly life at court but later chose the monastic path. He joined the Benedictine monastery of Niederaltaich, where he lived in penance and humility. Later, he withdrew as a hermit into the Bohemian forests, founding several monasteries to spread the faith in the region. His ascetic life and deep spirituality made him a respected advisor among nobles and clergy. He passed away on October 9, 1045, and was soon venerated as a saint.
