When did St. Hugh of Grenoble live: 1053 - 1132
BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Hugh of Grenoble was born in 1053 in Château-Thierry, France, and entered the clergy at an early age. In 1080, he was appointed Bishop of Grenoble against his will, believing himself unworthy. Despite his reluctance, he worked tirelessly to reform the Church and fight corruption. He actively supported St. Bruno in founding the Carthusian Order, granting him land in the remote Chartreuse mountains. A deeply spiritual man, he lived an ascetic life and repeatedly tried to resign from his position, but always returned to lead his diocese. He passed away in 1132 after serving as a bishop for over 50 years and was canonized shortly thereafter.
