BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Rupert of Salzburg was a Frankish missionary and bishop, regarded as the Apostle of Bavaria. Born around 660, he served as Bishop of Worms before moving to Bavaria to spread Christianity. Invited by Duke Theodo II, he worked in Regensburg and Salzburg, where he revived the ancient Roman city of Juvavum, turning it into a missionary center. He founded St. Peter's Monastery and the Nonnberg Abbey, the oldest continuously operating women's monastery. He promoted culture and the salt trade, earning him the title of patron saint of salt miners. He died around 718 in Salzburg and was buried there.
