BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Isidore of Seville was born around 560 in Cartagena, Spain, and is regarded as one of the greatest scholars of the early Middle Ages. He became the Archbishop of Seville and played a key role in the Christianization and cultural renewal of the Visigoths. His most significant work, the Etymologiae, was one of the first medieval encyclopedias, compiling the knowledge of his time. St. Isidore championed education, reformed the school system, and preserved ancient knowledge. He presided over the Fourth Council of Toledo (633), which introduced major reforms for the Spanish Church. He passed away on April 4, 636, in Seville and was canonized by Pope Clement VIII in 1598.
