BIOGRAPHY:
St. Norbert of Xanten was born around 1080 in Gennep to a noble family. Initially, he led a worldly life as a canon and court chaplain. A dramatic event during a storm led to his conversion. He chose an ascetic life, became a priest, and in 1121 founded the Premonstratensian Order in Prémontré, France. In 1126, he was appointed Archbishop of Magdeburg, where he implemented reforms and strengthened clerical discipline. San Norbert was particularly devoted to the veneration of the Eucharist and fought against church abuses. He died on June 6, 1134, in Magdeburg and was later transferred to Prague.
PATRONAGE:
St. Norbert is the patron saint of Bohemia, the Premonstratensians, and is invoked for difficult childbirths.
