BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Peter Claver was a Spanish Jesuit priest who devoted his life to helping African slaves in the New World. Born in Catalonia in 1580, he joined the Jesuit order at a young age. In 1610, he traveled to Cartagena, Colombia, one of the main hubs of the transatlantic slave trade. There, St. Peter Claver tirelessly aided the enslaved people, providing them with food, medical care, and spiritual support. He baptized over 300,000 slaves and called himself the "slave of the slaves." His dedication and compassion made him a model of Christian charity. After more than 40 years of selfless service, he died in 1654.
