BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Sigismund of Burgundy was the King of the Burgundians from 516 to 523. Initially an Arian, he converted to Catholic Christianity and actively promoted the faith. He founded the monastery of Saint-Maurice in Switzerland, which became a significant religious center. After ordering the execution of his own son due to a rash decision, St. Sigismund sought repentance and withdrew into a monastery. He was eventually captured by the Franks and executed. Later, he was venerated as a martyr, and his tomb in Saint-Maurice became a pilgrimage site.
