BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Sturmius was a Benedictine monk and missionary, known as a disciple of Saint Boniface. Born around 710 in Bavaria, he accompanied Boniface on several missionary journeys. In 744, he founded the Abbey of Fulda, which became one of the most important spiritual centers of the Frankish Empire under his leadership. As the first abbot of Fulda, Saint Sturmius promoted monastic discipline according to the Rule of Saint Benedict. Due to conflicts with Frankish bishops, he was temporarily exiled but later reinstated. He passed away on December 17, 779.
