When did Saint Astrid live: 4th century BC

BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Astrid, born and deceased in Bergamo (Italy), came from a respected family. After the death of her husband, she converted to Christianity, converted her parents and initiated the construction of Bergamo Cathedral. She also took care of the burial of Christian martyrs and ensured their dignified burial. This led to a particularly dramatic event when St. Alexander of Bergamo died. He was beheaded during the Diocletian persecutions, whereupon Astrid and her sister buried him. However, as a result of this deed, she suffered the same fate.

PATRONAGE:
St. Astrid is the patron saint of the city of Bergamo and Christian martyr.

SYMBOLISM:
The symbols of San Astrid are a palm branch, which generally stands for martyrdom, a book as a sign of wisdom and her life according to the Christian model, and a lily as an implication of purity.
