Saint Berta from Blangy, born in the Artois region (France), came from the Merovingian dynasty. Her marriage to Siegfried of Ponthieu, a noble ruler, produced five daughters. After his death, she dedicated herself to the monastic ideal and founded the monastery of Blangy, of which she became the first abbess. Her ascetic life and tireless devotion to the faith made her a central figure of monastic life in the early Middle Ages.
