When did St. Elias live: 9th century BC
BIOGRAPHY:
St. Elias is one of the greatest prophets of the Old Testament. He lived in the 9th century BC and was a staunch opponent of the worship of Baal, which King Ahab and Queen Jezebel tried to introduce in Israel. St. Elias challenged the priests of Baal on Mount Carmel, where God revealed His power through a miracle. After fleeing into the desert, he received a divine revelation on Mount Horeb, where he perceived God in a gentle breeze. He is considered a miracle worker, and according to tradition, he was taken up to heaven in a fiery chariot. In Christian tradition, he is seen as a precursor to Christ.
