BIOGRAPHY:
St. Erasmus, also known as St. Elmo, was the Bishop of Formia and lived during the Christian persecutions under Emperors Diocletian and Maximian. According to legend, he endured severe tortures but survived through divine intervention. One of the most famous stories tells that his intestines were pulled out using a windlass, which made him the patron saint of sailors and protector against stomach and intestinal diseases. Despite multiple imprisonments and tortures, he continued preaching and converting many people to Christianity until his martyrdom around the year 303 AD.
