BIOGRAPHY:
Saint George was a Christian martyr and a Roman soldier. Born in Cappadocia, he served in the Roman army. As a devout Christian, he refused to make pagan sacrifices and was persecuted under Emperor Diocletian. According to legend, he slew a dragon that threatened a city, converting its inhabitants to Christianity. He suffered martyrdom through brutal tortures and was eventually beheaded.
