BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Martina was the daughter of a former consul and therefore enjoyed high social status. She was orphaned at a young age and therefore dedicated her life to prayer and the poor. She refused to make sacrifices to the Roman gods and was consequently subjected to various tortures. Legend has it that she escaped unharmed from a lion's den and even a fire could not harm her. In the end, she was martyred by beheading.
