BIOGRAPHY:
St. Raymond of Peñafort was born in Spain around 1175. He was a renowned theologian and jurist and joined the Dominican Order. His most important work was the compilation of canon law, commissioned by Pope Gregory IX. Additionally, St. Raymond was dedicated to missionary work among Muslims and Jews, and together with St. Peter Nolasco, he founded the Mercedarian Order, which focused on the liberation of Christian captives. After a successful career as Master General of the Dominicans, he retired to a simple monastic life and passed away in 1275.
