BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Regina, born in Autun (France), was brought up by a Christian wet nurse and baptized in secret. As a simple shepherdess, she devoted herself fully to a life of service to God. Proconsul Olybrius pressured her to marry him, but she refused. As a result, Regina was arrested, tortured and ultimately beheaded.
PATRONAGE:
St. Regina is the patron saint of shepherds, the poor and victims of torture.
SYMBOLISM, DEPICTION:
The symbols of San Regina are a book as a sign of her wisdom, a palm branch, which is generally regarded as a symbol of martyrdom, lilies for innocence and a sword, which is emblematic of her beheading.
