BIOGRAPHY:
St. Vincent de Paul was born in 1581 in Pouy, France. After being ordained a priest, he dedicated himself to pastoral care and helping the poor. During a journey, he was captured by pirates and sold as a slave in North Africa, but he managed to escape. Back in France, he founded the "Congregation of the Mission" (Lazarists) and, together with St. Louise de Marillac, the "Daughters of Charity." He devoted his life to supporting orphans, the sick, and the poor, reformed priestly education, and fought for social justice. He died in Paris in 1660 and was canonized in 1737.
