BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Hemma from Gurk, born in Carinthia (Austria), was the widow of Margrave Wilhelm von der Sann. After the death of her husband and sons, she devoted herself to charity and founded several churches and monasteries, including the famous Gurk Abbey. Her life was marked by numerous personal losses, but she nevertheless used her fortune for the benefit of the church. Her particular sense of justice can be seen in a loin in which Hemma asked dissatisfied construction workers to take what they considered to be a fair wage from her purse. They found the exact same amount that they were entitled to anyway and the rest escaped their fingers.
