BIOGRAPHY:
Saint John Baptist de La Salle was born in 1651 in Reims, France, into a wealthy family. He studied theology and became a priest, but his true calling was the education of poor children. He founded the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, dedicated to free education. St. John Baptist de La Salle revolutionized the school system with innovative teaching methods, such as instruction in the vernacular instead of Latin and the introduction of structured classroom learning. His efforts made education accessible to children from impoverished backgrounds. He passed away in 1719 in Rouen and was canonized by Pope Leo XIII in 1900.
