BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Catherine was of noble descent and two popes belonged to her family. At the age of 16, she was married to Giuliano Adorno, a marriage characterized by numerous conflicts. After ten years of unhappiness, Katharina became more deeply involved with purgatory and God, which resulted in her most important work "Treatise on Purgatory". This work had a great influence on Catholic theology, as purgatory was no longer characterized as a physical place, but as an inner purification process.
PATRONAGE:
St. Catherine is the patron saint of souls in purgatory and Italian hospitals.
