BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Ignatius of Antioch was an important Church Father and Bishop of Antioch. He is considered one of the Apostolic Fathers and was a direct disciple of the Apostle John. Due to his unwavering faith, St. Ignatius was arrested during the persecution of Christians under Emperor Trajan and taken to Rome. During his captivity, he wrote several letters to Christian communities, which remain valuable sources of early Church theology. Eventually, he suffered martyrdom in Rome, where he was thrown to wild beasts, likely lions, in the arena. His writings particularly emphasize the unity of the Church and the significance of the Eucharist.
