BIOGRAPHY:
Saint Peter, also known as Simon Peter, was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus and is considered the first pope of the Church. Originally a fisherman from Bethsaida, he was called by Jesus to follow him. St. Peter was a key figure in the New Testament and played a vital role in the early Christian community. He witnessed many of Jesus' miracles and proclaimed him as the Messiah. Despite denying Jesus three times during his Passion, he was later forgiven and entrusted with leading the Church. According to tradition, he preached in Rome and was martyred under Emperor Nero, being crucified upside down as he deemed himself unworthy to die like Christ.
