BIOGRAPHY:
St. Florian was an officer in the Roman army during late antiquity. He was responsible for firefighting in the Roman province of Noricum and supported persecuted Christians. When he refused to renounce his Christian faith, he was arrested and tortured. Eventually, he was thrown into the Enns River with a millstone around his neck, suffering martyrdom. Later, he was venerated as the patron saint of firefighters.
